Usage of Filters in Landscape Photography

I'm thinking about buying a set of filters to aid my photography and probably looking at both Grads/ND Grads and screw in CPL filters,
My lens line up may change but mainly like for like. i.e selling my Sony 11-18 to buy a Sigma 10-20.
Just wondering what filters I should be trying to buy and what function the different types serve to improve my images.

hi chris

well basically,a good start would be a set of ND grads.i have the P120 ND grad,P121L ND grad[1stop],P121M ND grad[2 stop],and the P121 ND grad[3 stop].these help you get an exposure balance for the ground and sky..so you don't end up with a blown out sky or an under exposed foreground etc..this is achieved by taking a meter reading for both the ground[mountains,buildings etc..]and the sky,then work out how many stops of difference there is,which will dictate which filter you will need.

ND filters wise,these help you get those longer exposures that you'll see in those milky waterfalls,and those clouds that appear as if the shot was taken in darkness etc...a good start would be to get a 1 stop,2stop and 3 stop grey ND set,which you can use together should you wish/need to on those very bright days.

i have 2 CPL filters[72mm + 77mm]which i'm lucky enough to have fit 4 or 5 of my lens,but if you have lens with varying thread sizes,i would imagine it would work out quite expensive to have enough to fit them all,so the lee option[or cokin]might be your best bet.
 
Was looking into using a 105mm CPL but can screw in CPL filters be used in conjunction with ND filters in a Lee holder?
I know it's probably not possible for my widest lens but surely for everything else like my 16-105 there should be no vignetting issues?
Also am I correct in thinking I need 100mm rather than P size Grads?
