USB Active Repeater Cable???

I am setting up a bird feeder station and want to place my Canon 7d in the garden and connect back to my laptop about 10 - 15 metres away, so I can view and operate remotely. I am told I need a USB active Repeater Cable. so to the point.

1) What exactly is it
2) Where do I get one
3) Has anyone used one and do they work.

It allows you to extend your usb cable further than with a normal usb cable without signal suffering by buffering.
