Hi guys,

I've bought a used camera but the guy forgot to post the USB cable used for uploading. Anyone know where I can get one from on the cheap?

They're really just a 1.1 usb cable but if there are any stores I can get to that sell them cheap I'd like to know. :) Perhaps staples?

Cheers

Dan

What camera is it for dan??
TBH if it has removable media such as CF or SD Cards then something like this would mean that you could deal with pretty much anything.

If it is not a CF or SD cam then let us know what model and I will have a shufty around.

Good advice chappers.

To OP: also when it comes to card readers you get varying speeds. Worth a check up on what cards you will be using.

This is what I'm after, yes Chappers. :) Are there any a bit cheaper though? I've splurged plenty tbh and could really do to keep costs down.

It's a canon 30D. Pain really, I've asked him to send it on, but tbh, for the price I got it for I can't complain. It really was a steal. I sold my canon 300D for more than I paid for the 30D. :D

I would agree that a card reader is much better than downloading via the USB cable.

However if it's a Canon you have then you want a USB A to Mini B as per the attached link.

However bearing in mind for about another £10 you can get a card reader, from any decent photo shop, the reader may be a better option.

Bearing in mind to that the card reader will probably have the same USB socket as the 30D (as it's almost "the" standard) so you get both.

Although if you do go for either of the options above I wouldn't get them from Maplin, look elsewhere as (especially on the internet) they will be substanially cheaper.:)

(You should be able to get a good proper branded card reader for around £10 online)

Bloomin excellent point Amp!

My Belkin -F5U249 Multi Card Reader comes with one too :)

As does my Sandisk ImageMate (though beware that depending on model, the cable with these can be extremely short).

OO and so does my belkin USB hub. Depends which hardware you have a need for.

And by the way - any mobile phones that have a USB connection might also have a similar lead :)

One of the best card readers I've found is from Netto.

It cost £7-8, takes all the cards, and is also a USB Hub as well. I've got 2 other card readers (picked up over the years for work) and the Netto one is the best, and the one I use the most.

Yep, they come with everything nowadays (except the occasional silly camera brand *cough* Panasonic *cough*).

You know I was just thinking if my phone would have used one. I'm about to have a rumage through all the old stuff in the man drawer. I know I've seen one of those belkin ones somewhere, I've no idea why or where though!!

Its probably next to the dead batteries and instructions for everything in the house

That's my man drawer! Can't forget the take away menus, post to the people who used to live here, a million elastic bands and a few paperclips.

It's not there though! Is this turning into a 'have you looked here yet?' thread? :p

 can I also suggest the 'Man Box'... that place where you keep a multitude of cables that have all inexplicably had an orgy and got themselves all impressively knotted up!

If you can confirm that it's a USB to mini USB that you need PM me your address and I'll stick one in the post.

I'm sure I have one lying around somewhere.

You need to confirm the type of cable as I think the one on my Olympus has a slightly different connector.

Aww Very Generous pair of chaps there!

Nice one guys :)

Well they're very generous offers guys. Thank you very much, I'm touched!

It is definitely a USB A- Mini B 5 pin though, and I can't find one at all. Even checked the loft. :o

I've got a spare; PM me and I'll post it tomorrow or if you need it quicker than Royal Mail can deliver I'm sure you can pick one up quite cheaply.
