Just transfered a folder with 31GB data (various images) to a portable hard drive in 16 mins, the same folder on the same drive but via usb2 is 27 mins.

My transferring of files from usb/sd cards has slowed down for some unknown reason. Strange....

USB2.0 = 480 Mbit/s

USB3.0 = 4.8Gbps

It also depends on the media which is being written from and to, there is no point having a Lightpeak ((Thunderbolt) 10Gbps) connection if you only have a hard drive which will only read or write @ 50MB/s

I got a USB3 card reader for my desktop, very easy to install (5 mins) and works a dream. 16GB SDHC card cleared in under 4 mins. Just ordered a 7D and a couple of 16GB compact flash, hope it'll be as quick with them.

The usb3 hard drive will work on usb2 but will of course run at the slower usb2 speed. Thank goodness for backwards compatibility!
