Well my commercial venture didn't work out... I was going to sell three of these (leftover material) but violated the forum trading rules. So instead I'll teach you how to make them yourself. Spreading the safety!

Buy some strong string and a carabiner. Tie the string to a carabiner, loop it through the camera, clip it to the quick strap strap. Now you are protected!

I used dinghy string and steel carabiner. The string I'm using has a breaking strength of 90kg for a single length!

I think the idea is to 'safety net' the connectors in case of failure - not protect against willful damage (I take it you mean that the strap gets severed/cut on purpose rather than accidental) - but if you're that worried - stitch some steel bicycle gear cable along the strap.

I often use small Wichard style 32mm snap hook clips or lobster clips with a loop of 1.5mm dyneema cord (110kg breaking strain) as a safety link - I thread the loop through a fixing point then thread the clip through the loop (in a hitch style) and then fix the clip to the other fixing point. For extra security, a 'maillon rapide' style clip with a screw-gate could be used.

Sounds like the same idea then. How come just quite often and not all the time? I thought about a screw gate but it's a bit of a pain to remove which I need to sometimes.

By quite often I mean I often use the method for various other applications (I don't have a Quick-strap) - like for example, my music player to complement the player's built-in clip (in the photo above), as a safety tether for velcro-fastening belt pouches to belts etc (I have some 3rd party pouches that I use with my Lowepro belt or attached to my shoulder bag strap that don't seem as secure as the Lowepro pouches). I have a whole load of clips with loops of various lengths that I use as either complimentary or 'first-line' fixings - I'm paranoid about dropping things and either breaking them or losing them. If I haven't got a zip pocket then you can bet that items in my pocket are clipped and hitched to my belt, lol.

I generally prefer the clips to screw-gates too - but sourcing the 32mm snap hooks is not easy.

lol, that's a bit extreme! You could say the same for a normal camera strap being cut etc. My concern was the weak points such as unscrewing or the carabiner breaking, so this is an ideal backup option. To protect against everything you'd be stapped up to the max! lol

Steve, does the extra carabiner effect the "slidability" of the set up up and down the strap?
