Used Canon 7D VS Brand New Canon 600D

This is my first post so I hope I am in the right place to ask this question:

I need a second camera body and had planned to buy a new Canon 600D.
I already have a 600D so this seemed like a good idea - ease of use and familiarity etc.
I have just been introduced to the Canon 7D (Mark II) and although I can't afford to push the boat out this much, I wondered about buying a second hand 7D instead.

My wish list for another camera would be:
1) fast focus
2) good in low light conditions in particular
3) compatible with my current lenses

So my query is:
Would you suggest I buy a brand new 600D or a second hand 7D??

I shoot families, babies and the occasional wedding.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Wait a few weeks until the 750d and the 760d come out. I was about to buy the 70d until these got announced.

Agree with Keith the 750 and 760D look promising but if they are over budget I can recommend the 7D
I have a 7D and 550D the image quality is the same for both but the 7D has much better controls
for example its quick and easy to adjust exposure compensation with the dial on the back or quickly move the focus point around with the joystick thingy

If you do get the 7D (recommended) you'll probably find it becomes your main body with the 600D as the back up. Lots of 7Ds available now that the mark II is available so prices are low.

As you already have a 600D go for the 7D. It is much better built, weather-sealed, has a vastly superior AF system, almost double the battery life, much higher FPS, and a larger more accurate viewfinder.

It will also feel like a new toy rather than the same old toy.

Yes completely agree the 7Dd is an amazing camera

Agree too. The 7d is in a totally different league compared to the XXXd cameras.

Thanks everyone - this is really useful!
I don't think my budget will stretch as far as the new 760D (I've just had a google).
I definitely think that if I buy a used 7D it will become my main body with the 600D as back up. I really like the idea of fast focussing and also fast focal point selection (I hadn't realised it was as simple as using the joystick)!

There are plenty of used 7D bargains available at the moment. Many people are trading up to the 7DII or 5D3 and selling these beauties cheap. For ~£400 you should get a good one, or they are ~£600 new if you are willing to import.

7D = great camera

Ive used a 60D for few years now with a 450D as backup (wife nicked the 450D) so I managed to pick up a &d with 10,000 clicks only and that has now become my main body with the 60D as backup.
