Hi, OK I want to buy a used full frame Canon (cannot afford a new one) I am pulled toward either the 5D or 1Ds Mk2 my main use is outdoor and I believe that the 1Ds has a better body when it comes to bad weather conditions, I have no need of video (to be honest I don't no why they put that option in a camera to take photographs). Any views please?
Thanks
Russ

I have a 5D Mk1 and a 1D Mk2 (not 1Ds) and the 1D is much bigger but is more robust and would be my weapon of choice in poor conditions. I believe the 5D has better Iso performance than the 1Ds so if you're shooting in poor light/slow lenses that might be a consideration.
Also will the size of the 1Ds be "embarrasing", depends on what you are shooting.

Hi, Matt, can you explain what you mean by the size of the 1Ds being embarrasing, I only shoot sea/landscape and 99% of the time on tripod.
Thanks
Russ.

My lad sometimes has to take "shots" for work and sometimes "borrows" my 1D but he sometimes uses his 20D as he feels he attracks too much attention with the 1D in some circumstances. Doesnt sound like it will be an issue in your case.
I think if I was going anywhere near the sea I'd want a 1 series body if there was any chance of spray.
