Used D3 or New D700?

If you had the chance at a lowish usage D3 for the same price as a new D700 would you take it? I'm coming from a 1DsII so really like the bigger camera.
 
Thats the biggest thing i miss from going from a 1 series to a 7d is the ergonomics. A 7d and grip is no match for how a 1 series or D3 etc feels when using it.

Oh and another Canonite jumping to Nikon isnt helping me not want a D700 either! :shake:
 
What's stopping you? For me it was going back to 12mp, but I've accepted I can live with that till I can afford a D3s.

a d3s is a step up, but its still 12mp and I don't think its a big enough step up from a d3 to justify it.
 
Basically the price to change over, ive always been Canon and had a play with a D700 (big mistake!) and loved it. I do like the crop factor of the 7d and i dont think the D300s is worth swapping to over the 7D.

D3...but I have an undeniable gear fetish. I'd shoot 6x4" printed headshots with a 400mm 2.8 on a D3X if I could go figure lol
 
I bought the D3. :D


Now, do these Canon L's fit...
 
There's nothing available to put those L's on your D3, though funnily enough you can buy an adapter for nikon lenses to Canon bodies.

Gaffer tape.

It's light-tight if you use enough but I don't think it's any good at transmitting the exposure and AF info....;)

It's purely because the hole the lens fits into on a Canon body is larger than the one on a Nikon body, so the lens can 'fit inside'.

Canon lenses are therefore obviously too big to fit in the Nikon mount.

Nothing to do with Nikon lenses being more desirable.

As an aside - I believe this is also the reason why there are more f1.2 lenses in the Canon range.

Isn't it more to do with the longer flange to focal plane distance in Nikons compared to other manufacturers?

Don't see how. Nikon lenses work fine adapted onto canon bodies.

I've seen some amazing shots from a 14-24 mounted on a 5DII.

That would be because the adaptor will increase the flange to focal plane distance so the Nikon lens will focus correctly. It's only the other way round that it doesn't work. There may be an adaptor with an extra piece of glass in to allow infinity focus with a Canon lens on a Nikon body if you want to try it - look at SRB Griturn - if anyone does one, they will.

:nono: Obviously you wasn't a fan of the old series of Blue Peter then....

A old washing liquid bottle (pref the old white Fairy bottle :thumbs:) & some sticky back plastic & possibly some pipe cleaners.....

:thinking: Could never work out why with them thou :$
