Used d3 or New D700

No brainer, a used D3, having said that i have a D700 as a second body but simply because i didnt want to be carrying round a big lump like the D3 for day to day stuff, the D3/D3s cant be touched for low light sports photography.

take the d7000 pentax k5 and sony a550 all the same sensor but all are slightly different the d7000 has slightly better high iso and the k5 has better dynamic range,
so from what i got told from nikon that the d700 has been tweeked slightly to improve high iso over the d3 as its newer.
same as the d300 same sensor as d300/s and d90 which again are slightly tweeked over the d300 for better iso and the d300s has slightly faster af than the d300 to supposedly.

d700 is rated to 150,000 shutter the d700 with a grip felt better to me than the d3 did its slightly bigger and the dials are easier to use on the d700.

I looked at the D700 before buying my D3s, and i'm so happy i bought it. It's feels better in my hands, and the fact it has dual card slots offers a backup to your prized shots. There's also all the Raw file adjustments you can do in the camera without needing to upload the files to a pc. (i'm not sure you can do that on the D700). Also, for sports photography, i believe the frame rate is faster on the D3s, compared to the D700, so i guess the buffer system must be better, too? If you can afford it, go for the D3s, otherwise the D700 is supposed to be an excellent Camera, too.:thumbs:
 
5 minutes ago bought second D700, wooo hooo :) it was same question D3 or D700. Size and weight matters for me. Only one minus security - single card slot. But when using few smaller cards like 8 or 4 Gb - no worries. And price you can get new d700 cheaper then used d3, same camera, vut smaller and less heavy. If im going out to shoot, can you imagine your back in evening after all day having d3 + 28-70? you can broke your back with this stuff. And results are totally same.
 
It's not a no brainer. I had a D3 and had to sell and downgrade to a D700 which was a gutter, but U actually prefer it as I can remove the grip and the thumb wheel us in a Better position for me.

You need to stop quoting that site Scott, most folk agree its full of distinctly iffy results, check out where they test 4 D700's alongside each other and come up with different results for each one.

And who ever you spoke to at Nikon is blowing out of their backside, speak direct to Nikon Professional Services who will tell you their exactly the same sensor, no tweaks, no jiggery pokery etc.

Read the reviews, google D3 V D700 and check out the high ISO comparissons between both cameras, theyre exactly the same, i have a D700 and have had a D3 and theres no difference in the high ISO stakes, identical.

Correct, and even if you were to believe the DXO marks, the D3 scores 2290 while the D700 scores 2303, now thats a miniscule difference of 14 which equates to less than half a percent difference which is probably down to the manufacturing process and would be within the allowable tolerances or even down to the instruments used to make the measurements by DXO, again like every production/measuring process there are allowable tollerances.
 
remember that if you're concerned with weight then the d700 with grip is quite a lot heavier than the D3! D3 and D700 noise handling is identical, D3s noise handling however is a league above. If you're looking at using for sports then I'd go D3 all the way, the handling is better, faster fps and much more rugged
