Just thinking out load here folks..

Currently have a D70s and 3 lenses: 18-70, 28-105 macro & 50 1.8.

Already asked in another thread about upgrading my D70s to a used D300 and losing my 18-70 and 28-105 for possibly a Tamron 17-50 2.8 as I'm hoping to get into portrait work soon. Initially thought this may be the best route financially as I don't have a huge budget and need lighting too.

However, for the cost of changing from D70s to D300 I could have a NEW Canon 50D as they're now around £600. I previously had a 30D so I don't mind the switch from Nikon to Canon (again !).

Has anyone done something similar ? Many of you use a 50D for portrait work ?

Don't want to spark the Nikon v Canon debate :shake: but just wondered if this would be a viable alternative ?

Some of you might say stick with the D70s and just blow the budget on glass but I will more than likely upgrade it within the next 12mth regardless.

No immediate rush to change but it's starting to do my head in a bit :bonk:

Any suggestions welcome.

Where are you looking at getting the D300 from? MBP photographic have some good prices on D300 bodies (£769 - £779), and you get a 6 month guarantee I think.

Might be wrong but when I was looking into it the 50D didn't sound that appealing - s/h 40D seemed like better value.

Yeah, I thought the same a few months ago when looking at the 50D.

I've been checking the stock & prices on MPB last few days. Would probably get from there if buying s/h.

Just wanted opinions from folk who maybe use it for portrait work instead of taking advice from reviews based on test charts and the like.

Haha, wondered how long it would take

The Canon wouldn't fit any of my lenses and I want a D300 so that I can give my D200 to my son to start his A level in photography this september :)

Did consider the D200 at one point but decided it wouldn't be much of an upgrade for the cash diff
