This is such a good thing ! Can't remember exactly where I got it from, but search for thumb grip and camera on amazon or similar...

I see you have discovered you cannot operate the PASM wheel if you push it right into the hotshoe :(

You can, but its easier positioned as shown, not an issue, and for me improves the handling.

Until you twist the hot shoe off...
 
Thumb grips are nice, I use them with my x-cameras.. but I think yours is the wrong one for the X10 - not having it properly mounted on the hot shoe will be applying the forces incorrectly to the camera and as @Nod says it risks damaging the hot shoe.
