Using AI Servo for macro passed me by until today

For some reason, I hadnt picked up that the 7D had "A new Intelligent Macro Tracking function helps reduce blur during macro shooting by recognizing when a macro lens is attached and automatically adjusting the AI Servo sampling frequency. This AI Servo adjustment accounts for camera movement forward and back, a typical occurrence when moving in close for a macro shot as photographers rock back and forth, or a flower blows in the wind. "

Well I gave it a go today, and it seems to work pretty well. I have used MF up to now but these are all with AI Servo AF and my Canon 100L IS Macro lens and are a few amongst loads of keepers I got from this morning

Hi Nigel, shame it only works with macro lenses. I use servo AF a lot and end up with many mis-focused shots before hitting the right spot.

Nice shots - particularly the first. Be interested to know the shutter speeds you used. Is it really the camera or your IS lens ?

The shots were 1/100th and 1/200th. As to what it really is, I think its the functionality of the camera that gives the AF Macro ability

So you turn off in camera shake reduction when doing macro?

Well i am glad i read your post,i have the same setup,but normally only al-servo for bird's in flight shot's,i'll try that next time,nice set too,

Nice set - I most always use AI servo for macro on the 7D, the increased sampling rate sure helps.
