Using iPhone as a wireless router

Is this possible without jailbreaking?

I don't want to jail break my phone but was wondering if its possible to share my 3g internet onto my iPad?

I think i can tether it but need to speak to vodafone and pay for extra data apparently, just wondered if there was a way to share my data/make my phone an access point before paying extra money

I tether mine on the three network but ive got unlimited data on my plan
I had to download some config file and i just plug the iphone into the laptop and the internet just works

I had read somewhere that Vodafone change something on the network to allow me to tether connections but what i need to do is pay for extra data as the data used on devices connected isn't part of my data use on my contract, typical

Theres nothing wrong with tethering the iphone, phone companies dont like it as you use much more data allowance than you would just using it normally.
As long as youve got unlimited data allowance then go for it.

Im on an 'unlimited' data plan but once ive used 2gb in any calendar month, they stop my data usage until my bill rolls over...........there conning, cheating, misleading *****s!!
