Using LiveView on a 500D without taking the camera's exposure into consideration..

Basically my problem is that I'd like to use the LiveView function for some manual lenses that I have as it is far too difficult using the 500Ds tiny view finder to accurately pinpoint the focus to where I want it on some old manual lenses, so I thought I'd go for using the LiveView option..

However I'm shooting in manual, and once I dial in my settings it goes pitch black because the camera thinks it's under exposed, except it won't be since I'm using manual flash lights..

So is there a way of using the LiveView function without it taking into consideration what it thinks the exposure will look like? I'm hoping it's something obvious and not something that can't be done, it would be a little bit ridiculous if that's the case, I think..

Thanks for any help!

Okay, screw that idea - it appears my flashes don't even bloody fire off when I'm shooting and it's on LiveView mode.

What a bloody pointless waste of technology that is then.

Why not set the camera to max aperture and up the ISO to capture focus? you could then dial in the settings you want and leave the lens on manual so you don't change focus

:D .... Sorry! must admit I don't think I've ever tried to do that .... Give me a sec ;)

Okay, just tried it and the flash fires without a problem ...

Aye, looks like I'm going to have to quickly whack it into Av mode or something to get the focus right in LiveView then switch to Manual/turn LiveView off and then take the shot. Bit of a pain and isn't exactly practical but it should work. Maybe I should just buy a camera with a proper view finder!

There's possibly an issue with it not liking my RF602 triggers then, god knows why that would be though!

Have you tried the flash on camera to see if it fires

I am seeing the same issue with my 7d and el-cheapo RF triggers.
Set up camera, with RF trigger, press shutter release, and flash fires.
Press live-view button, press shutter release, and the flash doesn't fire.
Appears to be a limitation of live-view.

Okay, I just tried it with the PW's and no problem

Maybe live view requires a TTL/response from the flash, which the el-cheapo doesn't do.
It is irritating, as I was using the RF to work around the fact that one of my lenses responds to two flashes/pre-flash, and the other doesn't

Something strange is happening? .... I used the flash on manual so no ETTL involved! ......
