Using my flash

Im planning on going to late night shopping with the wife and was going to take my camera and new flash iv never really used a flash gun befor and im in practice at the mo and strugeling but iv got till friday to try and get mt head around it was affter some advice on setting tips any thing really that might help me for general use to using at night.

Ow yeah im using a pentax k10 sigma 28-200 and metz 48 af-1 flash gun.

Dan, key question you have to ask is what you want to shoot; if you want to do some snapshots then just whack everything on auto and let the camera do it for you. If you want to start balancing ambient with flash a bit more subtely then you might be best off using your flash in manual mode so you can really fine-tune just how much artificial light is in the shot.

Have you got any shots you want to cop - if so, post them or post some links then we might be able to give some more specific advice
