Using newer nikon lenses with older 35mm SLR's

Hi there, not really delved into film before at all, and I want to try it out At the moment, I have a nikon D90 with an AF nikkor 50mm 1.8 and a tamron 28-75 2.8. These lenses are relatively new compared to the camera I would like to try out film with, a much older Nikon FE. My question is, will the lenses work? I assume they will, albeit in manual focus mode, but thought i'd just check before I spent fifty quid on a camera to find out I can't use it ¬¬

Most Nikkor lenses will work apart from the newer G-series that don't have an external aperture ring.
Most AF-S and AF-D lenses should be OK...

If you really want, you can use G type lenses if you wedge the aperture lever open (on the lens mount) with a bit of material, I sometimes use a piece of rolled up card. Of course, this means you can only shoot wide open and I accept no responsibility if you ruin something if you try it

thanks guys I suppose being able to use an SB-400 flash is a little too much to hope for?
