using non Nikon Flash with Nikon D2H

Hello peeps of TP, could someone please offer some advice on how to set up a non Nikon flash with a Nikon. I was offered this hardly used D2H at an absolute bargain price and could not turn it down (£350). I sold my Canon 350D but now cannot for the life of me get my Neewer flash system to work with the Nikon. I have happily been using a simple Neewer 180 set up with two lights triggered by an RT16 unit. It could not have been easier with the Canon, I simply attached the hotshoe transmitter and pressed my shutter release, flash bang wallop jobs a good 'un. S0, do I need some kind of Nikon hotshoe adaptor; i have tried using a synch cord connected from body to transmitter and that did not work. I can not even find information that would help me to get the flash to work apart from it seems that I now have to buy all new Nikon iTTL gear. Does anyone have any advice on how I can still use my Neewer system with the Nikon.

Yes, Canon and Nikon connectors/pinouts/levels for hotshoe and PC sync ports are different.

You need stuff made for Nikon.
 
I'm pretty sure a PC sync is just a PC sync, independent of camera manufacturer. If it's not firing on a PC sync cable, the problem lies elsewhere.

Also, the RT-16 - if it's like this one - should work on Canon and Nikon alike. The trigger is 2-contact, one on the lip and one in the middle of the shoe mount. The position of these contacts is common to both Nikon and Canon.

I have a D2X, which should function identically to the D2H, and I have a 4-channel version of the RT-16. Triggers my flashes fine, so I think the problem may lie within your D2H. :(

Simon, after having a confirm from you that the flash system should work I thought I would check on all components of the flash system because the camera really has hardly been used and I found it hard to believe that the problem was with the Nikon. After checking a couple of things I realised pressing the transmitter sync button that should flash the red light on top of the transmitter wasn't working, so I opened it up and found that the small 12v battery inside the transmitter is actually flatter than a flat thing on a flat day. I know, classic schoolboy error but it was your confirmation Simon that nudged me to look deeper, thank you.
And as for "you need stuff made for Nikon" well, it seems as if 'stuff' doesn't need Nikon written all over it for it to work with Nikon.
