using the built in flash

on the G1

i have mine set at the forced setting and use M for setting speed and aperture so i can use ambient light if possible
i set the speeds under 1/160 and use the f no to regulate flash intensity in conjunction with the power control
results are fine and predictable
what i need to know is why there is a time lag when i press the shutter release and the flash fires and the shutter moves
on my olympus e-420 this was instantaneous
any advice greatfull received

I'd try manual focus, manual metering to see if either of these make a difference.

Have never used the camera you mention, but these things may help.

didnt properly read your post, you already are using manual metering...

Charging the flash? Depending on the system it might be a huge drain on the battery to keep the flash ready to fire the whole time so it might take a second to give it the power it needs

yes this occurred to me...and i will do some trials with fully charged battery

i seem to remember there is a flash ready signal ...so i will ensure that that is green before trying it

funny thing is that in low light situations where the camera chooses the speed the flash is instantaneous

will have to go back and jot down the parameters again
