What is the difference between a UV (0) filter and a UV (N) filter,I had a look on the Hoya site and tried googling but can not find the answer.

im not 100% sure, but i think, that the (0) is used for reducing haze, wheras the (n) is neutral and purely for protecting the front element of the lens.

it would seem logical as people often sell uv filters as lens protection, but as i say, im not 100%.

I had a quick Google too. Found some answers but nothing definite as a lot of them were different to each other :)

UV(O) is optical glass. UV(N) is normal glass - seems the most plausible.

The only real reason for having one is lens protection. I do have a UV filter on one of my lenses but I don't really like them so the others I'm just careful with.
