UV filter stuck on Lee adaptor ring!

I have a UV filter that is stuck on my Lee adaptor ring. It's stuck solid, it just won't budge! Any tips for getting it off?

I can't picture what setup you have but sometimes wrapping an elastic band round it gives better hand grip. But that assumes it's just that you can't get enough grip.

Had a similar problem when my Lee adaptor got a bit too fond of the Circular Polariser I had screwed it into. I wrapped an elastic band around the filter to grip it better whilst I tried to unscrew the adaptor.

Great minds and fools in my case Freester :)

Anyway, if it can be wrapped in a freezer bag and stuck in the freezer for an hour or two it might be enough to shift it. And if not leave in the sun (as we seem to be having some at the moment).

You could then resort to WD40, but it may be messy.

Then if all that doesn't work, stick it in a vice (only kidding). Just sell it as a complete kit on the forum ;)

Thanks for the replies.

The filter ring is metal as is the Lee adaptor it is stuck to. I tried the fridge, but that didn't work. I need to find a suitable elastic band and give that a go. If that fails, then a filter wrench. If that fails, then the options are to leave it on or break it off which I really don't want to do!

rubber gloves - place the stuck items between your palms and twist. (or you can use the rubber discs for opening jars which actually work better when combined with the rubber gloves)
 
Nope, no good. :'( Starting to think I might have cross threaded it, but I really don't recall struggling to screw the holder onto the lens...
 
I've done it loads of times with my Lee UWA adapter too! Give it a good turn and it'll budge but be as careful as you can. You shouldn't have threaded it, I'm silly enough to leave the UV on almost every time I go out. It'll come off and there's a bit of a nack to it ;)

Get a filter wrench or just leave it on there - it'll be stuck too tight to get off by hand.

You could possibly try cooling the adaptor ring a bit couldn't you? That should loosten it a bit.
 
It really is well stuck on. I've tried very hard to loosen it, but it's not budging at all. I've just ordered a filter wrench from Fleabay. Hopefully that will work. If not I'll probably give the hairdryer a go...

The filter wrench has just arrived and hey presto without too much effort the UV filter came off the Lee adaptor ring. I'm very happy! Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Filter wrench?! First I've heard of such a thing! I guess that must be sort of like a one of them whatsits they use to undo big old rusty bolts from heavy machinery to easen up the ratio?

TBH, when I opened the jiffy bag and saw the two bit's of flimsy looking plastic, I wasn't convinced they were going to do the job or last 10 seconds trying, but I was wrong...
