UV filter's

I have just purchased a Hoya multi coated UV filter from ebay (UK seller not hongkong) and the filter isn't clear. It has what looks like very fine speckles on it. Is this normal?
(Apologies if this is a dumb question)

Just had a look at the ones I'm selling (as they are sitting beside me!!) and they have no specks on them at all.

Is the filter just dirty from transit? shouldn't have any speckles if it is clean

definately speckles - tried using my rocket blower to blow any particles off and it's the same. Should they just be clear?

I had exactcly the same thing with a Hoya filter off Ebay. The filter packaging was sealed, but when I held the filter up to the light it had speckles on it. I cleaned it with some cleaning fluid and a lens cloth - was a bit miffed it was dirty, seeing it was brand new, but couldn't face the hassle of sending it back and asking for a replacement when a quick wipe with my cleaner did the trick!!!

Try breathing on it and GENTLY polish with a tissue in a corner and see if the speckles disappear.Otherwise I think you'll need a replacement.

as said it should be spotless. the cases are not air tight and some stuff iguess could find its way in. Also depends on how clean the room was when it was packed etc..

The speckles actually look as they they are ingrained on the glass. I shall sort out a return and replacement. Thanks for your help

Sorry but you should never touch good glass with a tissue. use a micro cloth.
