Im in need of a Tripod can anyone advise on the best value for money tripod and head.

I recently got one from Argos but it was very cheap and cheerful not very good so i returned it for a refund.

Ive seen the review for the Manfrotto 055XB tripod put thats a little too much doshhh at the min as ive spent out on getting kit together.

I dont really want to go for another cheap and cheerful one, i should have said i have a budget of about 80 quid.

I bet that is no better than the argos one mentioned...

On a budget you can go no better than redsnapper. Built nealry as well as a frotto but at a significantly lower price point.
 
If you can stretch that to £98 you can get the Red snapper legs and ballhead head delivered with the 10 % discount.

This tripod is the dogs dandies for the money.

Personally I'm a Giottos fan, having played with both the Giottos and the Manfrotto Ranges the Giottos wins for me but I have heard a few good things about these here and with a lower offer made, within your budget.

Oh, I quite agree, personally I wouldn't touch one, but some people like those sort of "bargains".

The Manfrotto 055 legs are pretty heavy, not the sort of thing that you'd want to lug around a lot. The 190s aren't quite as sturdy, but they're strong enough for the majority of camera set ups and a lot easier to lug around

Got to be Redsnapper Best tripod for price and give more expensive stuff run for its money!

(Hey Joe, when are you putting us lot on the payroll? salesmen of the year has a nice ring to it) LoL
 
In my opinion its worth looking at the Velbon range as well. Most of them are actually OK for the price. Jessops also do their own ones which aren't bad either. Both of these are good for starting off. Though as you use tripods more you would probably become more fussy and demand more from your tripod. With Redsnapper tripods, you are really getting into that stage where you want a half decent tripod and whilst they are quite good they are certainly not cheap.

As long as the tripod holds your camera and lens steady, its basically doing its job. All other features are bonuses imo such as; compactness, weight, panning heads etc. I've used lots of tripods and have owned quite a few. Although the additional "bonus features" are useful, I would be happy to use a cheap tripod if it held my gear steady enough in the conditions I intend to use it.

So, best thing to do is to bring your camera and heaviest/longest lens down to your local jessops, try out what they have in your budget. Then search around for the best price.
 
Redsnapper gets my vote too, excellent piece of kit...

I also recommend the Velbon ones if you need something small/lightweight, I use mine for hiking mainly taking the more sturdy Redsnapper any other time

I have the Redsnapper tripod and ballhead also a Redsnapper monopod.
Excellant bit of kit and superb value for money.

My vote for Rednapper :D
 
i bought a Velbon sherpa 200r and its great for the money , it cost me £45 and seems well made , probably not as versatile as some of the more expensive models , but suits my needs pefectly
