Eighteen months ago I purchased a Canon 70-210mm f4 Macro for £65 from ebay for my son to add to his 400D and IS kit lens. He left on Friday for a 12 month trip around the world, but decided not to take the DSLR, so I thought I would check out his gear. I didn't realise how good these old lenses are. Okay maybe a little noisy and slow autofocus, but the quality is excellent. So if anybody asks again for a cheap good quality lens I will point them to this review

Is anybody else using one of these gems?

I'm not currently using one but I did have one for several years....I would assess the lens as being pretty rudimentary in all aspects except the results it delivered when the lighting gods conspired to help out. I was never impressed with distant subjects but the quasi-macro function worked well for butterflies and moths.
There probably aren't too many better lenses out there for £65 IMHO

I had one, gave it to my son last week after purchasing an f3.5/4.5 version which has better IQ and AF speed but the f4 is a good value lens and I'm sure mine was good when I first got it but recently I think the f4 must have gone 'off'.
