Variable ND filters

I was just looking into ND filters today, these look really cool! Would be nice to hear the thoughts of people that had used them!

Aren't they basically just two circular-polarisers stacked together?

I just use a linear polariser stacked on top of a circular. The 7DS price looks pretty good, worth a try.

I know a couple of landscape practitioners who swear by the Singh ray variable ND filters, and their polarisers too for that matter.

Buy good stuff once. The quality remains long after the price is forgotten. Besides, if you can sell a single image for £20,000 over its lifetime, £200 is nothing. How many images come from the use of that filter? The cost is peanuts - getting to the shoot venue is the biggest cost now.

BTW that variable nd is the business imo. I have been contemplating one for myself. Last time I went to order at B&H they were out of stock. Might go take another look.
