Was looking at getting a 77mm to stick on my Sigma 10-20 for when i go to Malta as i want to have a play with longer exposures and the sun over there is extremely bright (and bleedin hot!).
I know through experimentation that i will get slight vignetting between 10-12ish focal length, so, would i be better getting an 82mm VND filter (to minimise the vignetting) and a couple of adapter rings to allow me to fit it to the 10-20 sigma (77mm thread) and my 18-250 sigma (72mm thread)?
Anyone ever tried this setup?

On a budget? I dont really want to spend a fortune on a set of filters that only gets used once in a ( 30 second exposure :) ) blue moon.
I normally shoot sports so apart from the odd holiday etc they wont get much use.
What set did you have in mind?

Be aware that a VND on an UWA will give CIQ when used at WA and HD.

Well thats maybe messed up my plans then :-)

Same lens, Sigma 10/20 on a 7D. I'm in Spain and as you can imagine its very bright during the day:). So decided to get variable ND filter and have been looking at B+W and H&Y. I have Cokin ND's but not for the wide angle lens.

Read a lot about vignetting at widest setting.

Is the image quality really going to be effected that badly then ( CIQ)
 
Get a Haida 3.0 Slim - £40 in 77mm. From CameraGear UK (e bay) or Premier Ink. Best value ten stopper by miles.

Ahh, dont get too many photography mags (that I can read) here I'm afraid
