Velban monopod head recommendations

Hey guys

Just picked up a Velban UP-400 monopod to help me with out and about shooting etc etc

just wondering what would be a good head for it, not looking to spend loads, say £50 and it must be able to support upto say 3Kg.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I've been looking at getting one of these myself.

I had been looking at the 494rc2, but do you think the 234 would be better for my gripped D5000 with a sigma 150-500?
 
The 234 will probably be too droopy with the Sigma 150-500. I found it just about OK with my 100-400 but it was unusable with my 300 f2.8
 
So where does that leave me? If the 234 is the best head under £100 will I have to exceed that limit?

Choices are:

Use a ballhead. Getting one to support over 3kg for less than £100 shouldn't be too hard. But I find I need three hands to use a ballhead on a monopod - one to hold the pod, one to hold the camera and the third to adjust the head.

Don't use a head at all: If you're shooting stuff that all tends to be in the same plane, like most sports and unlike birds in flight, then fitting the lens foot direct to the pod (or fitting a quick-release clamp to the pod) will normally work OK.

Spend a lot of money on a decent monopod head: I bought the RRS head for around £250. A lot of money but solid as a rock.
 
I currently don't use a head, but since I mostly shoot wildlife have found that I need to adjust the angle quite often.

£250 for a head :eek::eek: afraid that's out of my budget just now. Lol

Does that mean the 494 would be no good to me?
