Velbon tripods any good?

I use a Velbon tripod, (cant remember model) well built, in fact it is heavy really but I love it.

Will post model when I get home.

Steve.

I started off with a Velbon from the cheaper end of their range, it was an excellent seismograph.

Is that the polite way of saying it's not much good as a tripod?

I had one too a long while back, I gave it away to some unsuspecting soul...

cheers

Well lets just say, I could tell when someone closed a door in CHINA !!

The Velbon CX 540 is from their "lightweight entry level" range of tripods and may suit your requirements, but dependant upon your budget, one of the Semi- professional range may be a better long term investment.

I acquired a Sherpa 750R as part of a camera/lens package I purchased recently and have been impressed. It has great flexibility, with a wonderful feature in that the central column can be split and this gives it a good low height capability - min 31cm to 155cm. The Velbon 750R appears to be very sturdy to carry fairly large camera/lens combination, but is still light enough to carry whilst travelling.

I can see that the Velbon range represents very good value for money as it includes the quick release head plus a carrying bag.

I normally use a Manfrotto set-up and I am sure I have paid more for the name.

had my Velbon Sherpa 250R for a few years now, used it loads especially due to me doing a lot of landscape. only on saturday was it's feet sunk in wetsand and seawater :)

I have 2.
The Ultra Maxi M which is compact and lightweight. Very good for travelling, but can be a little unsteady.

Also have a Sherpa 600R. Very sturdy and versatile.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Sherpa.

I got the velbon cx mini, bought it whilst in london as my tripod was too big to fit in the bag.. for a 10 quid mini tripod, its brill, done me wonders in whilst i needed it..

At the end of the day, as long as its sturdy for your shots, what more do you want?

i've just purchased a sherpa 250r........ after using a friends.

seems well built and sturdy.
