So today I made a bit of a surprise purchase. Popped to a local independent shop, and based on the testimony of a great photographer who I've been shooting with lately, I decided to try a sigma 105mm macro.

Having recently lost my 135mm L to dreaded debt, I have been feeling very sorry for myself. I've been wanting a 100mm macro L for a while and was a touch skeptical after previous sigma uses. WOW! Sharp as a Frankie Boyle joke and build like prison guard, don't know if I just got lucky based on sigmas flimsy qc, but I'm so happy.

Add this to my new 5D mkiii and I'm one happy camper!

Just thought I'd share. :)
 
Glad you're enjoying it Kris - I posted a thread a while back trying to find out about focus speed. Any thoughts?
 
Focus speed and sharpness are on par with the L lens. Comfortably as good. Would be aware to try before you buy to avoid a lemon. Focus speed is fantastic for a lens of this focal range.
 
I've got the older non IS version of the sigma it's an excellent lens
Even though mine is a bit battered now it still has excellent image quality and is very sharp
I upgraded to the Canon 100L because I wanted IS (this was before sigma brought out their IS version) couldn't bring myself to sell the sigma so kept it
