Not something you really think about is it.

The magnification on a 600mm lens really concentrated the light so I'd say it's more of a worry for those with long lenses.
 
There's a very good reason you can be specialist solar film to protect eyes, cameras etc. I've seen very expensive and well made eyepieces as a large lumpy paperweight from a short period of unprotected sunlight. I'm not surprised. They were probably lucky the prism didn't melt, and the eye take a bashing through the viewfinder too.
 
What a retard, you NEVER point a lens at the sun for anything other than a sunset or sunrise unless you have a proper white light filter fitted firmly to the objective lens.

You also NEVER look at the sun through a camera, see that plastic? well with the state of that imagine the damage to your eye!!
