Video auto focus D7100

Hey everyone, got myself a D7100 when they came out as the reviews were excellent about it and I'm happy with the picture quality, makes my D80 look like a disposable, however, I find in video mode the auto focus to be quite slow, I've tried a few zoom lenses and 2 primes, and not having much luck. How fast should they auto focus and are they supposed to be near the quality of a normal video camera or whats the deal?

Hi jay the 7100 is primarily a photo camera and as such the video is an added bonus,and is nowhere near the quality of a video camera although many people are happy with the quality,if I have to use my 7100 for video I tend to not do too much zooming

Thanks for the reply, Yea I know its primarily for photos. I just seen some unreal footage on yourtube with it and wondered what on earth they done to make it focus so quick, I've fried the 50mm 1.8D and the 35mm 1.8G, and all standard zoom lenses. Although the prime is faster at focusing, I thought then maybe I had a few settings wrong perhaps?

its most likely that they will be focusing manually unless they say otherwise.

Played with the video on mine for the first time on the water obstacle at the carriage driving and it came out ok, not something I will be using that often though

Anyone using DSLRs for video professionally will be focussing manually. The speed comes from a combination of external controls (follow focus etc) and practice!

Thanks guys for the responses, just looked up the follow focus there, seems like the job for me. Seems awkward to focus and zoom a little however but maybe its not meant for that. I wont be using it to try video anything professional, just trying to use what I have to get the best video I can if you get me.
