Looking to buy my son a new Video camera for his birtday, but want one that can produce some decent still shots.
looking to spend £200-£250 if thats possible to get somthing decent at that price.

any ideas please.

Cheers...

Is it a dedicated video camera that you are after getting? I'm unsure what ones are currently out there within your budget that has good stills capability, but the Panasonic DMC-TZ7 stills camera is reported to provide good video recording capabilities.

As far as a video with good stills capability goes, I have a Sony HDR-CX6 currently for sale (see via link below) to fund a Nikon 16-85mm lens. Beyond being a full HD video camera, it takes great stills too, however that's a wee bit above your budget pricemark...

Thanks for the reply, Its not dedecated to video he would be after just trying to get the best out of both with out spending a fortune, As for video quality i think all new video cameras record pretty decent The idea was to print off some A4s or 8 x 10 , but not sure about quality one would get so reckon i will have to do some shopping around.
I have Sony DCR TRV11E which has served me well these past few yrs quality has been great, but the stills on the memory stick are not to good.

I'm sure you'll appreciate that technology has moved on a fair bit from your TRV11E, a MiniDV camcorder that has 0.8 megapixel resolution.

The Sony HDR-CX6EK is a true High Definition unit which has 6.1 Megapixel still image recording onto a MagicGate memory stick. I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ3 (stills camera) and find that, in many occasions, the CX6EK keeps up with it regards quality stills, and is a quantum leap in video capture compared to my older model Panasonic Mini-DV camcorder.

your best bet is probably get a second hand bridge camera or PnS camera, a lot of them take decent pictures and offer great video capability too, some even do HD video.
