Video capable Nikon SLRs

Hi all,

When I was first looking at upgrading my equipment the D3s was at the top of the list due to the video options, however, that would of left me short on flashes and lenses so settled for the D700.

I was intending on buying the D4 when that came out, but due to vets bills and an uncertain release schedule it's out of reach.

My wife is due mid October and really want a video slr by then, as my current gear is nikon it makes sense to stay with it (although a 2nd hand 5d mkii would be tempting ).

So, any suggestions of any nikons out there that have good video capabilities, won't break the bank and will stand in ok until the new generation are released?

My old D5000 is very good imvho, so I'd say the d5100 and d7000 would be a no Braner....

All current Nikons are crap for video when you really get down to it. I was all for getting rid of my kit and moving to Canon but it was pointed out by Kaouthia/John that Canon body with Novoflex adapter and Nikon lens might be the way forward until we see if Nikon has got their act together with D400/800/D4. Been really busy of late so haven't had a chance to do much either way but it's worth considering. You use manual focus anyway so a 550D for video for example with Nikon lenses could be a good interim solution.

I think we're all holding out for the same thing really. Nikon have got one chance to get it right, if it's not 100% perfect solution in august, I think they'll see a LOT of people switching that have otherwise been holding out or using a 550D or similar as a stop gap solution...

D7000 is the most capable at the moment.
