Video editing on a mac

Hi all, do I have to anything specific to be able to use the AVI videos from my D300s in iMovie? It doesn't seem to want to import them

What version of iMovie do you have?

Just found this on the Apple support forum

You may need iMovie 11 but best check with apple on that
