Its said that to get smooth movement its best to use a shutter speed thats double the frame rate. So if your shooting 25fps use 1/50 etc.
I tend to have my shutter set like this, set the f stop for whatever is required and play with the ISO until the image looks ok on the LCD.
I've actually go every little experience with shooting video with my 60D so far, but have done a lot of reading up on it. Getting ready for the summer.
IME the 17-55IS is THE best lens for a crop camera IMO, and even more so now we Can do video. It is expensive though but the Tamron/Sigma versions are pretty good.
That footage of the London Eye was actually shot with my Canon S95 compact. Pieced together in Vegas and rn through Neat Video NR.
