Hi gang.

I have an aging 350D that I use as my back up camera. I've recently cleaned the sensor but one thing that has annoyed me about this camera is that from almost day one, I have had debris in the viewfinder, as you look through it. It's a distraction more than anything else and obviously, doesn't affect image quality (I do that myself ) but I would like to know if it's a case of removing the viewfinder itself and cleaning it or if it's more likely to be debris somewhere in the body?

If the viewfinder has to come off, I would think that's a job for a specialist?

Since I got my 40D earlier this year, I have not removed my L glass from it as I don't want the same thing happening to that camera, which is a shame, as I have some other nice lenses.

Thanks,

Dale.

I had the same thing, a "dirt" mark through the viewfinder but not on the photos. This means the sensor was clean.

Took the lens off and could see the mirror, looked up and you can see the viewfinder template with the af points on it.

Carefully wiped this surface with a cotton bud and the "dirt" disappeared.

Try that, i think the mirror must have flicked some dirt up onto the viewfinder screen.

Carefully wiped [the focusing screen] with a cotton bud and the "dirt" disappeared.

I screwed up a D60 focusing screen like this, definitely try a rocket blower before resorting to direct contact with the screen. If the detritus isn't on the mirror or the focusing screen then it could be between the focusing screen and pentaprism/pentamirror, which starts sounding like a 'let a pro' do it job unless you're confident inside your camera.

I will try the basic cleaning but if that doesn't work, then I'll let a pro do it as the sensor is manky again and I can get that done at the same time.

Thanks.
