Hey folks,
Wonder if you can help? Like a muppet I switched lens' the other day and just at that point a breeze blew up, I connected my lens and looked through viewfinder only to see 2 small hairs in the screen.

I took the camera back to the car and cleaned the lens, mirror and sensor, still the didnt move. This told me they were out of my reach. So I took the camera to a photography shop - they kept it for 2 days saying they had cleaned it and it was fine now.
They may well have tried to clean it, but they actually made it worse there is several small hairs and bit of dust!? in there too now.

When I pointed this out he said it would have to be sent away to a technician

It doesnt affect the photos but none the less I woul prefer not to see it at all when composing shots.

Anyone know how to sort this issue?

Many thanks
Dade

If it is just a couple of hairs on the focusing screen then they can typically be removed with a bulb blower. Look at a camera schematic to make sure you understand where the focusing screen is, get your bulb blower and give the screen a few good jets.

It might require taking the focusing screen out to get rid of the detritus (depending which side of the screen it's stuck on, and how hard). Unfortunately this is typically more difficult with dSLRs than it is with film SLRs, but it's not overly difficult if you have the right tools. The most unusual tool that's useful is a small 2-tine prodder for removing/reapplying the springy clip that holds the screen in (assuming Canon is like Nikon) and some soft-tipped fine tweezers. I got the proddy tool with my katzeye screen, so if you can't get someone to do all this for you cheaply, consider swapping screens for a katzeye and getting some new hardware for your money.

What do you mean by 'cleaned the lens, mirror and sensor'?
