hi everyone

i would like to take my ipad with me when i am out taking pics so i can view what i have taken on the ipad's bigger screen.

can someone please advise what i need to do this, without having to jail break the ipad.

the camera is a 5d mk3 and i have a 16gb mini ipad.
 
You could get a lightning to digital camera connection kit or sd card reader to transfer photos. Or you could be really swish and get a cam ranger to let you control the camera and transfer them to the ipad wirelessly.
 
The iPad Camera Connection Kit will let you put the SD card directly into the SD adapter or you can use a CF card reader plugged in the USB adapter.

I believe you can use an eyeFi card as well and transfer directly to the iPad (but don't hold me to this...)
 
I know there are tutorials online for tethering the ipad to the Eye-Fi card, so that is the option I would say to consider. That said, 5d3 files are chuffing MEGA so you might find the waiting times a little irritating. See if there is an application in development that is directly compatible?!
 
Best solution with the 5DIII is an Eyefi card in the SD Slot and a CF as well

Send RAW images to CF and small jpg to the eyefi SD, that will transfer to the ipad very quickly normally takes about .5 of a second for a small jpg over to the ipad (I do this a lot to review images during a shoot).

Then you have the RAWs saved on the CF card for the edit later on.

Shuttersnitch is the best ipad app for loading and review, it costs a couple of quid but id far better than the free eyefi app

Also this works as an adhoc system so you don't need to be connected to a wifi network the 5DIII with eyefi and ipad will talk directly to each other.

I have just done the eye fi route, from a Nikon D7k to a Samsung Tab 10.1.

Images tranfer quickly and you can open and edit in software on the tablet. Great for on location where you can view the bigger picture and even send over wifi if that's your bag.

bit of an update;

i purchased a sandisk 8gb sandisk card and the shuttersnitch app. set-up was simple and straightforward. i have configured the camera to record raw files to the cf card and jpeg to the eyefi card. soon as i take a pic the camera transmits the jpeg image to the ipad. its that simple and convenient.

thanks to all who initially gave ideas and options to consider. :)
 
Do you have to be in a hot-spot? As in,have wireless reception on your ipad at the time? Just got an ipad mini myself and wondering how I could set similar up with the D800. It's a wi-fi only pad, no 3/4G
 
I Got one last week. I bought the lightening to USB cable from Apple and connected to my DSLR and works prefect and fast.

I have only ever taken the SD card out of camera to replace it with an empty one (4 years now) and only formatted once in camera when I first go it. It has never been in any card reader which may corrupt it.

Anyway, I am happy with the cable (£25 for 10cmm cable :-) ).

You can create a your own hotspot using your phone (if you phone uses a hotspot such as O2 or BT etc or even data contract) and connect the IPAD mini to it via bluetooth and you can use the internet.

If you have the wifi sd card you can also send photos directly to the ipad by connecting directly using adhoc network connection.
