On my deceased computer I could view raw files as thumbnails in the various MS windows and I think it was due to something I downloaded from somewhere on the web.

I cannot remember if it was recommended here or elsewhere but if anyone has the slightest idea what I am talking about could you please point me in the right direction?

I now have Vista :( XP users can download something direct from the MS site)

However, having done a bit more searching I have found what I was looking for - Canon users of Vista can download a codec from http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0026049.asp which enables images to show up in Explorer (or whatever it is called in Vista as they seem to have changed the names and positions of all the most obvious things from previous versions).

Old thread but worth pointing Canon still havent bothered releasing support for 64 bit vista (or xp) with this codec so if you have a 64bit OS to take advantage of the better RAM support for photo editing it wont work.

Adobe just as bad with a DNG codec. Both companies seem to be ignoring the operating systems best suited to dealing with photos.
