Thinking of upgrading my canon 70-200 4L and looking views on the tamron, preferably in comparison.

I use the canon lens on my canon RP and occasionally with a kenko 1.4 tele converter for sport with no issues. Focus is spot on with/without tc and images sharp wide open.

From the specs the tamron is an upgrade in every sense but in practice are there any downsides?

I owned the Tamron before moving to an R5. I thought it was a terrific lens. Definitely an upgrade on the Canon lens. Also beautifully made. The current Tamron lenses are great

I still own the tamron, but not on Canon, on a Sony mount though. Cracking lens. Tried the Sony 70-200 f2.8, but personally found the difference to be scientific, and a lot more expensive. Just my two penneth.

I’ve owned one for over 2 years, paired with my Canon 6D Mk2. Brilliant lens, solid build, good focus, images are crisp.
