HI. Can anyone identify this vintage item which has just got to be a flashgun? Thanks.
 
All that I can tell you is that it is a very early electronic flash, they were commonly used with Speed Graphic (5"x4" press cameras).
What you're showing here is incomplete, from memory there was a very large generator unit with it, which gave a non adjustable flash, and I think there were no more than 40 very low powered flashes to a charge. Lead acid batteries, weighed a ton
 
Thanks I thought something like that but was not sure. It came in a box of auto jumble. No generator.
I wont plug it in!!!
I am surprised there are no markings on it at all. Perhaps they were on the other bits!

From memory, there were no controls whatever. That isn't acceptable by today's standards, but back in the late 50's/early 60's the standard was very different. We just had a motley collection of very expensive flashbulbs, and just used whichever one had about the right amount of power for the job. And, in the total absence of clever electronics, and without the ability to 'correct' exposure errors PP, we just had to be very good at estimating distances.

From memory this particular unit had a very dodgy connector to the battery pack, and used to arc and burn out reguarly
 
I think I will stick it on eBay someone just might want it.
