I purchased a vintage lens at a local estate sale of a well known professional aviation photographer. It is Vivitar no. 379001338 1.8 f 800 mm lens. It’s the longest lens I have ever seen. Almost 36” I think it was mounted on a Minolta but not sure. Does anybody know where I can get more information about it? I purchased it as tribute to this photographer. I have no idea how old it is. I think it is 70s since the photographer passed away in early 80s. Any help would be great.

Hi and welcome to TP

It would help if you could add some photos of it to this to thread.

Include a picture of he front lens and the rear to show the lens mount........also perhaps include something of a known size to illustrate it's dimensions.

Is this the bad boy?

It is the 'rifle like' sight that is quite intriguing.

I doubt very much the Image Quality would compare to a modern 600mm lens and the sheer size will in my opinion make it un-manageable

still an awesome looking beast though

Les :)

I agree but it’s a piece of photography history.
