I'm looking to get more into portrait photography at the moment. One of the things that I'm looking for is a good quality vinyl background (probably white) and a stand.
Initially it would also be for photographing a small child so would need a train.

Can anyone make any recommendations of makes and where to purchase at reasonable prices?

Any help really appreciated.

Hi Stuart.
I have been looking at the same sort of thing, but I am tending more to a heavy duty stand system.

It may not be any good to you, but I am looking at something from here:

And the vinyl backgrounds:

There are a few people on here who have managed to source a cheap vinyl background from a company who supply to haulage companies:

HTH mate.

What is your budget? Backdrop supports, I used the HEAVY DUTY CALUMET backdrop support. It's rock solid, £160 or so. I feel this is required due to the INSANE WEIGHT of the Vinyl Backdrops.

The backdrop itself I paid £200 for, from Lastolite. It's 2.73 metres x 10 metres if I remember correctly. It is very heavy, and the backdrop supports will wobble like hell if you extend over 9ft...even the heavy duty ones.

All in, £350 or so...

Gary.

Also, you don't need a train if you buy a sufficiently lengthened roll. The Lastolite one I mentioned was very long indeed, 10 metres which is plenty of length. It allows you to make an "infinity curve"....
