Virgin Mobile? T-Mobile?

Been shopping around and the best deal on the phone I want is through Virgin mobile who use T-Mobile network.

I've generally always stuck with the big three in the past (Orange/Vodafone/O2) so this is new water for me. Can anyone offer any good/bad experiences with signing a pay monthly contract with Virgin and also about the coverage on the T-Mobile network?

Also rumour has it that T-Mobile are about to be bought up by Orange? Any truth in this?
 
I've been on Virgin most of my mobile life with just a year with O2. I hated O2, coverage was poor. Never had any problems with Virgin and I now have a HTC HD2.

Thats exactly the phone I'm after as they have offered me a great deal. No problems with download speeds from Virgin?
 
I like using Virgin, just i find it cheeky that you have to pay 30p a day on top of your contract to get on the net (although havent looked for a couple of months, might be included on some now).

Apart from that, good coverage, good customr support, plus early bird v festival tickets ;)

It's the first phone I've had that I'ved used the internet so I don't have anything to compare too but I have no complaints. At home I use wifi :D.
 
ive been on t-mobile for nearly 3 years, never once had a network problem, (and its quick at christmas/new year)
 
My experience coverwise for Virgin and before them T-Mobile is the exact opposite of those above, it's awful even in Edinburgh where I live. That has been with different phones over a number of years and phones that had great cover in the same places with Vodaphone/Orange.

In fact I've got so sick of their lousy coverage that I'm moving off back to Vodaphone.
 
I've been with Virgin for a few years now without any issues. I can't advise on downloads etc. as I use my phone for making phone calls - I know 'How Old School'.... As to your other question, yes the EU has just approved the purchase of T-Mobile by Orange so it will be going through in the next few months. Don't know how that will change anything. Maybe I'll be able to get an iPhone on Virgin :thinking:
 
Been with Virgin for 6 or 7 years. No hassle, The only places I've had signal problems are inside my house, and Southern Florida.

Never had a problem with their billing or contacting them. I nearly switched to Orange at Christmas as their call costs were cheaper. but on PAYG orange won't allow monthly direct debit, were as Virgin do.

I've looked on the tariff page and I see this 30p charge. I have to ask does this apply still if you have the unlimited data usage as part of your package.

It does seem poorly worded, if you have internet in your package you don't pay the 30p. The data isn't unlimited so to speek but I use it every day and got nowhere near the limit.

They have a fair usage policy which I guess is like my current O2 one for my blackberry. Just wondered if the 30p was a hidden cost to make up for the seemingly competitive monthly contract rate.

Both my kids are on T-Mobile and coverage seems pretty good... We bought them T Mobile Pulse Android phones at Xmas, unlimited texts and data & 300 minutes per month - £20/month...

All very good I have to say :)
 
if you ever come to the new forest for any length of time - make sure you get T-mobile. It's the ONLY network that seems to work indoors!!!!

otherwise, I haven't a clue! :lol:

Not quite correct; The EU have just approved a 50/50 merger between Orange and T-Mobile. Orange had to put some money into the merger pot to reflect their value compared to T-Mobile. That may be where the buy-out rumour has sprung from.

Funnily enough I've just spent the past half hour talking about this with my son who is an accountant at France Telecom (they own Orange) and personally involved in the merger. So far they haven't agreed in detail how the merger will be effected and what it will mean to customers (or staff) except that the merger company will have a new name, so the T-Mobile and Orange brands are likely to disappear in due course. It will take at least another 2 months to sort out all the legal stuff and get the new company set up so for the immediate future customers won't see any change.
