Just received this today from a few of my business emails.

Hi All,
This information has come from a reputable IT source that has checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
They have checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to all your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS,
FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK, regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C drive of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address on his/her contact list. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it!
If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even if it is sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN.
It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.
COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

I don't know how serious it is but it will do no harm to keep vigilant.

sorry but you could fill up TP in 5 minutes with such warnings.... But what you fail to realise is the message is the virus...

A virus us somehting that causes fret , concern, worry and spreads like wildfire... just like these messages that tell you to pass it to everyone :(

The simple message is.. dont open attachments from anyone you dont know... that covers 99% of all such virus warnings as above :)

Oh the message is the virus, ..............I geddit......................

Oh no my C driveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

hoax hoax hoax, as 99% of these messages are.

Any hoax like this always has several common components

It's always a new virus that no one else knows about and there is no cure for it

It's always announced by a big name like CNN or Microsoft

It will always destroy your machine with a single click

And the "warning" will always tell you to tell everyone you know about it!

unfortunatly no you dont get it.. however your sarcasm does not go unoticed... see the rest of the replies that follow in this thread and it may just dawn on you... not all virus attack hard drives is a clue..

I have a friend who sends me these regularly, although I've told him not to, he thinks if doesn't pass them on, I may be unaware of a new virus doing the rounds, I guess some people just believe everything they read.

I love these silly emails that go around... its a real shame that some people actually believe them. But I dont understand why people send them, as there is no real gain at all from this?

same mentality as scratching a car or throwing a brick through a window for the people who start them.. they prey on gullible people to foward them to all there mates and families...

Did nobody read my last line in my OP.

Kippax, sorry for being sarckey, I couldn't resist. Tis the season to be jolly and all that.

tiler, yes folk including I suspect kipax read the last line but what he says is correct, that message is sent with the express idea of causing worry and concern among the recipients and so having them propagate it, therefore it is the virus.

Handy hints for telling if such a mail is a hoax or not, firstly if you get a notice like this, it's a hoax, secondly any such message saying "send this to all your friends" is a hoax, thirdly the use of CAPITALS for emphasis in a message like this means it's a hoax! :)

Do virus writers study grammatical English?

Do a little investigation before relying on what others say

Here is the Snopes listing for this "event" .

Also the last paragraph sums it all up I think. Panic over.

I would also suspect that any good AV program would trap this .

Good reason to get one!!!!!
