I'm planning a visit to Silverstone, for F1 practice day. I've not been there since the Senna era, and that was a corp. hospitality thing - so I had a great view.

This time round I'll have a 8 yrs old child with me, and be lugging a D90 with 18-200, and a camcorder. I'm out of touch with the track, which areas can be accessed, etc. and I will appreciate if anyone can give me some info. and/or tips as to what to expect, and, realistically, what I might be able to shoot/video - given that I'll have a child with me also....

Most likely, I will be going on the Friday.

Well. Being that it will be on the new Arena circuit, and new fences have gone up nearly everywhere. The best place for photos and when using a camcorder for fence free and a tidy-ish background, that would be Luffield in, and out.

also Vale outside, will make some good video footage, as its always entertaining there.

If you do go on the friday, you can get into some stands, and if you can find the New Village corner at the arena section, there are a few stands which will make superb views of the arena section, also nice and close for photos and video footage.

take some decent ear defenders for the little 'un. F1 cars are still damn loud and you want him/her getting any hearing damage (on moaning at you about the noise all day :)).
