Would appreciate "idiots guide" to cure the following or a non too technical explanation

I have recently purchased a new pc - basic spec:-
500gb hard drive,3gb ram, dual core processor plus Vista
Only had it 2 weeks and 73gb used on hard drive already

Same stuff on my old xp pc only took 12-13gb

Whats happening????

Thanks

Vista is bigger than XP to start with but not that much. The bulk of the difference will be things like System Restore backups, the hiberfil.sys file that the RAM gets dumped to in sleep mode etc.

Something like TreeSize Free will let you see where the disk is being used if you want to track things down in more detail.

Vista on its own can be up to 15gb!

Plus 73gb is nothing these days. currently using about 900gb+ on mine lol

you probably have more stuff than you realise installed and your own files as well
