VR lens

Hi not sure if this the right thread but how do you know if a vr lens is working when switched on is it supposed to make any noise this might seem a daft question but i can't see any difference in my pics am i doing something wrong i have a nikon 55-200vr lens :shrug:

if its anything like the Canon's IS when you focus it makes a sort of hum/whine and when looking through the view finder you should see the image steady itself.

Generally you can hear a little noise when the shutter is depressed depending on the lens. I don't know too much about Nikon, I'm a Canon guy.

Have you tried taking two hand held shots at a low shutter speed to compare?

at max zoom, looking through the viewfinder and wiggling the camera left to right, you should see the image wobbling. Sounds daft, but its the most visually noticeable aspect of VR.

Are you stabbing at the shutter button at all?
It takes around a second for VR to fully stabilise, so you have to make your half press a little longer than you might normally.

I have three VR lenses and the sound varies between the examples, I haven't used yours though so can't say really. You should see VR kick in though when it activates.

On my 70-300 you can deffo see the VR kick in and steady the image.

Was at Martin Mere the other day and switched VR off while it was on the hide clamp.

Forgot to put it back on when walking around for a couple of shots and boy,can you see the difference.
