VR

I definitely notice and appreciate VR when shooting videos handheld with my D5000 and using the 70-300 VR. Now, I don't often use the 18-55, but, would I notice the VR the same when shooting video with that lens, despite it being a much smaller focal length? Wondering if its worth upgrading to the VR one..

Views of existing users etc appreciated.

I have a non VR 18-55 the Mrs has the VR one, she can get noticeably sharper shots (at slow shutters) taken in the same place moments apart.

If I was upgrading however the lenses I'd be looking at 17-50/5s and 24-70s very few of which have VR/OS/VC anyway.

I see. Well more expenisve lens are not in, as its not a focal length I use much anyway. The other option would be the 18-70 (I used to have) but I'd rather get the advantage of VR during video I think...

The obvious upgrade is the 16-85VR, which will also be the same filter thread as your 70-300VR.
If that's too expensive, there's the 18-105VR. Probably not a massive step-up in IQ (if any at all) on your 18-55 but it has VR and the focal range is longer (will go up to and overlap the 70-300). Is also the same thread as the 70-300
