It is a really amazing bit of kit and feels wonderful to hold, with super fast focus speeds :)

I cant wait to get some good weather so I can get out there and use the thing in anger!

Its made me rethink my decision not to take the D700 to Africa with me in a couple of weeks ;)

But has anyone tried the new one to the old one yet?
To see how much of a diffrence it makes.

Thanks all, I am so excited I want to go and try it now!!!

You need to change your signature now as it's no longer on pre-order.

Done :)

I have used the old one, but I would love to have one side to side for a real comparison. I dont know if anyone has done this yet or not....

you are NOT taking your D700?!.....

Because if I take it, I would want the 70-200 for the reach... and the 24-70 for the wide angle... and the 50mm for some cool uber DOF portraits... and the speedlights for lighting... and the lencartas... and the beauty dishes and the.... etc etc etc.

I seem to be incapable of travelling light, because I can guarantee that the one thing I left behind will be the bit that I need

Nice :)

looks a beaut

Worth a read.

I'd preordered this lens but have canned it due to what I've seen thus far (and conversations with a couple of wedding shooters I know who've used it for a few weeks already).

It's clearly superior to the VR1 in terms of corner/edge performance and vignetting. The VR2 works well and allows lower speeds handheld. But, for what I shoot (people and weddings) I could care less about corner performance and the VR1 is already stellar in the centre. It would cost me £800-900 to change and for what I do it's not a worthwhile investment. YMMV.

 +1

I want to go 'round to his house and punch him in the tits (;)), but that's only because I was too stupid to pre-order one and will now have to wait a year to find one in the shops (by which time the price will have gone up in line with the price of rice, no doubt :bonk:)!

JOStone: I look forward to hearing your further thoughts on that beauty, once you've had a chance to test it out properly. Good purchase !

Cheers for the link.

Me I own the VR1 and shoot music, sports and anything else with it.
I think that its a pretty awesome lens and really havent had any problems so far,I find it pretty sharp all the way.
And havent had that much issues with vignetting?
I dont think i will upgrade just yet as I am in the same boat and it just doesnt seem to be worth it yet.

Grey > Black.... That is all :D

Congrats! Enjoy getting some use out of it. I too want to hear what its like. The dealer keeps trying to tempt me...

Kev.

Congrats on the purchase.
You need to clean that mess up on the cooker hob though :D

Cheers for the link mate, thats a good read.

I agree that if I had the v1, I doubt I would have upgraded to the V2 after spending cash on the original, but as I didnt have a 70-200, I thought I would go for the new one from the outset.

Indeed :) I am just waiting for the lencarta lights to arrive and then I am going to go out with the portable lights and start shooting. I will post up the results when I'm done.

Congrats on the purchase.

I shall inform the wife immediately
