Walk about lens advice

Hi guys,

I am in the process of replacing my bog standard 18-55mm IS kit lens for my 450d. I recently got the Siggy 10-20mm which I am very happy with, I love taking landscapes so its perfect. Also love the build quality as it adds a more solid feel to my light body. Now I am looking for a general walk about lens, for holidays and the like. I have 3 which I am looking at.

Canon 17-85 USM IS - because its Canon, has IS and USM

Sigma 18-200mm OS - food focal range and has OS, I resume the build feel will be similar to my 10-20mm so will be more than happy.

Tamron 18-270 VC - Huge range

Anybody any thoughts on the 3 lens about I could get both the sigma and canon for under £200 and the Tamron for around £300.

i've got the 17-85 usm is as my main walkabout lens and am very pleased with it, my recent jetty photo's on my flickr site have been taken with this lens

not sure about the tamron 18-270 itself, but i had a tamron 28-300 which i thought had good iq until i compared it to my current canon 55-250 is which has much better iq

as i say though the 18-270 may be a better lens then the 28-300 i had

i get to use a canon 18-200 every now and then, thats also a very good lens, might not find one for £200 though

My walkabout is a Sigma 18-200 and is great. It recently needed repair (didn't bounce well on Brussels cobbles) and borrowed a Tamron 28-300. I felt the images it returned were not nearly as good as those I was used to with Sigma, even within the Sigma range never mind the 300 end.

The Tamron 18-270VC is a good walkabout lens.
I know many people don't like superzooms but for the price it's a good consumer lens and ideal as a walkabout lens.
Have a read of reviews, most are quite positive.
I've recently sold mine as I am moving over to L lenses and I've never understood what a lot of people shy away from this lens.
It's not perfect, no superzoom will be but compared to the competition in that price range I don't think it can be beaten.
For people not lusting after L lens it's a good starter for a walkabout lens.
I've also owned a Canon 17-85 and a Canon 55-250 and in my opinion, the IQ from the Tamron is slightly better than these two lenses.
Go to a shop and have a play with one.

I am going to my local shop today to have a play about, he has the Canon and Siggy in but no Tamron. It seems that all will give the same standard of IQ would I be correct?
